Day 4 of Offroading – We headed to the Moab Diner for breakfast, I had the French toast which was good as usual. Then a stop at City Market to pick up supplies for the rest of our trip. We had lunch at Fiesta Mexicana, our favorite Mexican restaurant in Moab.
We decided to run the Fins N Things trail at the Sand Flats Recreation Area, always a fun trail with a few tough spots thrown in. About halfway through the trail we caught up with a group from Toyota Research and Development out of Michigan. They were testing some prototype Tacomas so it was fun to watch them. Our friend Woody (Founder of IH8MUD.com) was trail leading for them.
Vince got a wild hare to climb an exceptionally steep (and optional) section of slickrock. The good news – he made it on the second try. The bad news – the motor mounts flexed enough for the fan to hit the radiator shroud, busting two blades off and some big chunks out of the shroud. Some duct tape to hold the shroud in place got him off the trail and to the hardware store in town. He bought a metal strip and bent it to reinforce the duct tape patch of the shroud. That installed, we headed to the Cruise Moab Dinner at the Arena which gave Vince some highway speed testing which didn’t surface any issues. After the Dinner we settled into our camp at the Spanish Trail Arena.
