Day 9 of Offroading – We had a very quick breakfast as folks were arriving to use the hiking trail and we were taking up a lot of the parking spaces. First up was the Barracks 4WD Trail, which follows the East Fork of the Virgin River and in many places the trail is in the river. We had to break out the shovels to level the road at one spot. Turned out to be the same spot that Matt’s Off Road Recovery (a very popular YouTube poster, with over a million followers) had pulled out a stuck Ford SUV back in August 2023.

We could not climb a steep sand hill about 20 miles in and had to turn around.
We took the scenic route to Hurricane, UT and drove through Zion NP, stopping at a park in Hurricane to make lunch.
Then it was off to the well-known Sand Mountain Open OHV Area. The area offers everything from sand dunes to the toughest rock crawling. Folks getting stuck or broken here keep Matt’s Off Road Recovery busy. We had a great time on the dunes. Cliff gave some confusing hand signals and Tucker got stuck, but Ben was happy he had a chance to pull someone out.

Ben and Cliff set up camp at the KOA in Hurricane, while Tucker decided he would start for home and find a less commercial campsite. The 2 of us made use of much needed showers and headed to dinner at Alfredo A’s, a great Mexican restaurant in Hurricane.
That concluded this 4WD trip in Utah.
