The track for this total solar eclipse went across central Oregon, and figuring it would be crowded on the western half of the state we chose the eastern side. Worked out potential site using maps, we arrived a day early to evaluate the sites and found a good location about 30 miles from the Idaho border. Using a telephoto lens and a special filter we took a number of good photos.
We used this filter film from Amazon:
Solar filter film
I made a film holder for the camera (so it could be quickly removed during totality) or taped film to binoculars, and safety glasses. Need to use filters for all phases of viewing except when sun is totally blocked by the moon.
