Most of our trips have gone very well, maybe a hiccup here and there, but those are resolved and we continue on. This trip was a challenge. The trip was delayed due to more rains than normal for that time of year and we finally decided to go as clear weather was forecast after the current storm.
We spent the morning in Fruita, Capitol Reef and after checking with the Park Service about our 4 wheel drive route and hearing it was in good shape we set out for the Burr Trail. The road had minor washouts which the Land Cruiser dealt with easily. 100 yards from the junction with the Burr Trail we encountered a major washout. We got out and dug a large ramp on the far side of the washout. The flat area on near side of washout that we had been walking across seem pretty firm. When driving across it, a berm stopped us and the Land Cruiser began to sink.
Photos tell the story.
